What is my public IP address, and how is it different from my local one?

Your public IP is the address your ISP assigns to your connection, and it is what the rest of the internet sees when you visit a site. Your local IP — usually something like 192.168.x.x — is handed out by your own router and only means anything inside your home or office network. The Find My IP tool shows the public one, along with the approximate location and network operator that others can infer from it.

Are WHOIS results always accurate?

They come straight from registrar databases, so the registration and expiry dates are reliable. Ownership details often are not: most registrars now apply privacy protection by default, replacing the real name, address, and email with proxy values. GDPR redaction removes much of what remains for domains registered in Europe, so an empty-looking record usually means the data is hidden rather than missing.

How long does DNS propagation take?

Anywhere from a few minutes to about 48 hours, governed by the TTL value on the record you changed. Resolvers around the world cache the old answer until that TTL expires, which is why a site can look updated to you and unchanged to someone else. Lowering the TTL a day before a planned migration shortens the window considerably.

Can I check if a domain is available to buy?

Yes. The Domain Checker queries a range of TLDs at once and reports which are unregistered right now. Availability is a live answer rather than a reservation, so a name that shows as free can be taken by someone else minutes later — register it with a registrar promptly if it matters.

Do these tools run in my browser like the rest of the site?

No, and this is the one category where they cannot. WHOIS, DNS, and domain availability all require queries to registry and nameserver infrastructure that a browser is not permitted to contact directly, so the lookup is performed by our server on your behalf. The domain or IP you enter is therefore sent to us. We do not build profiles from those lookups, but it is a meaningful difference from the file-based tools elsewhere on Mavertex, which genuinely never transmit anything.

Why does a DNS lookup here show different records than my computer does?

Because you are asking different resolvers. Your machine queries whichever DNS server your network or VPN configured, and that server may still be serving a cached copy. This tool queries authoritative nameservers, so it tends to show the current truth before your local resolver catches up.
